Cargo Terminal Operators
Singapore handles around one fifth of the world’s container transhipment17 . One of the key container terminal operator, PSA Corporation, operates four container terminals at Tanjong Pagar, Keppel, Brani and Pasir Panjang, with a total of 44 berths. The Pasir Panjang Terminal is the most advanced, equipped with berths and quay cranes that can accommodate the world’s largest container ships. PSA Corporation is also has the world’s largest refrigerated container (reefer) port with about 5,000 reefer points handling more than 500,000 reefers in 200618 .
The other major industry player in Singapore is Jurong Port. As a major gateway for multi-purpose cargo in Singapore, Jurong Port is well-equipped with facilities and services to handle containers and a variety of bulk and general cargo. Jurong Port’s cement terminal is also one of the largest common-user cement facilities in the world.
Passenger Terminals
The Singapore Cruise Centre (SCC) is currently the only cruise and ferry terminal operator in Singapore, with four passenger terminals that handled about 7.8 million19 cruise and ferry passengers in 2006. Home to 25 cruise lines and about 50 vessels, the SCC has become a familiar name to many international cruise ships that call here regularly. It is an ideal one-stop service centre, with seamless linkages for cruise lines to more than 50 destinations in Southeast Asia.
