4th Maritime Leaders Speaker Series

The 4th Maritime Leaders Speaker Series was held at the DBS Auditorium on 27 August 2010.

About 300 junior college, polytechnic and university students as well as maritime company executives attended this maritime talk which encourages students to consider careers in the maritime industry, and provides a platform for maritime employers to interact with the students.

The theme for the afternoon was “Singapore and the Sea: Strategic Significance and Opportunities for Young Singaporeans”. Guest speaker, Professor Tommy Koh, Ambassador-At-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), shared his insights on Singapore’s maritime industry, highlighting the importance of the oceans to humanity, as well as the significance of the maritime industry to Singapore’s economy today. Prof Koh covered a wide array of topics, from Singapore’s evolving role as one of the world’s International Maritime Centres, to training of human resources for the maritime industry.

This was followed by a Question and Answer session chaired by Mr David Chin, Executive Director, Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF).

The Maritime Leaders Speaker Series is organised under MaritimeONE – an initiative by the Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI), the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) and the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA)
