Launch of MaritimeONE

Minister of State for Finance and Transport Mrs Lim Hwee Hua launched the MaritimeONE (Outreach Network) initiative in the evening of 3 April 2007 at DXO. MaritimeONE is an industry-led initiative for maritime stakeholders to collectively raise awareness and attract quality manpower to the industry. This would be achieved through a range of partnership activities including joint-student outreach activities, scholarships, internships, and regular contact between maritime employers and tertiary students. MaritimeONE will be led by Mr S. S. Teo, and supported by Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI), MPA, SMF, and SSA.

The evening's inaugural NetworkONE Reception, sponsored by Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF), and Singapore Shipping Association (SSA), demonstrated the objectives of MaritimeONE by providing an informal environment for more than 150 graduating students from our local universities to interact with some 50 industry captains and their personnel managers.

In the same evening, new MaritimeONE scholarships sponsored by FSL Trust Management, “K” Line, Pacific International Lines and TORM Singapore were announced. Forty-five maritime companies had also come forward to offer 70 internships to the inaugural batch of NTU Maritime Studies undergraduates.
